Yes, It Can Be All This Simple!
This lively RSAnimate, adapted from Dan Pink’s talk at the RSA, illustrates the hidden truths behind what really motivates us at home and in the workplace.
Thanks @theonenonlysah for passing this along.
When we see individuals who have made it in their perspective fields we tend to believe there was some magical power or luck that got them there. Rarely do we realize that at some point in life these individuals we admire were in the same situations as we are in right now.
Motivation: Michael Jordan Become Legendary #4
AT&T partnered with History Makers and Common for Black History Month to honor and reflect on History Makers from our past as well as showcase African American innovators in the present. At 7pm on Thursday, February 24th the legendary Apollo Theatre was packed with individuals waiting to hear words of wisdom from business shark Daymond John the creator of FUBU, Author, Business Consultant and so much more. Everyone was on the edge of their seats, well at least I was hearing Daymond’s story, being from Queens just like Daymond and hearing about the same people my Uncle use to tell me about when I was younger and who would come to the house made me feel nostalgic and also opened my eyes and made me realize that I can do this. The by any means necessary attitude that Daymond displayed was more than inspiring and is a trait that few have and is what I believe separates the Greats from the Average.
The main message of the night was to Rethink Possible, really think about your possibilities in life and see them in a different light. Though Rethink Possible was the message that struck a cord the entire night, Daymond left us with one key word which was SHARK and I have been thinking about the meaning and how I have been implementing and or living out the life of a SHARK on a daily basis.
S – Set Goals - Look at them everyday (and most importantly execute them)
H – Homework - you must do your homework to succeed (many individuals have a business idea but don’t follow through with learning the industry, analyzing the competition, looking into financials and other aspects that it takes to sustain a business)
A – Amor – You Must Love What You Do (as I always say when you are doing what you love it hardly seems like work)
R – Remember Your Brand - Daymond made a great point that most companies slogans have 3 words, simple words that are ingrained into your mind and easy to remember (but most importantly many of us start at point A and when we get to point B we have strayed away from what the whole purpose of the company was and the brand is lost)
K – Keep Trying – Things don’t happen overnight and are not easy. You have to be diligent and keep at it to reach your goals.
As an entrepreneur do you see yourself as a SHARK? Do you embody all of the attributes listed above to help catapult yourself and your brand to the next level?
I was recently reading an article while on the train featured in the NY Metro called “Traits of Highly Successful People” where they took a look at the lives of successful individuals and highlighted some traits that have aided in their success. I go out to events quite often and while interacting with individuals and speaking to them about their many accomplishments and accolades I often find myself noticing certain characteristics and commonalities amongst them all that stand out.
While reading through the article I could relate to Jonathan’s outlook and found that I have had the same experience when speaking with individuals trying to figure out what is the secret to their success. I know one of the biggest issues I have is being hesitant to reach out to certain individuals for help and it has been expressed to me on many occasions that I should never have too much pride or be afraid to ask for assistance with achieving my goals and it was touched upon in this article as one of the biggest factors that aids in success.
Below are some attributes that drive the success of many of the influential individuals that inspire us daily and help push us to the next level.
